A TikTok user may encounter results after posting a controversial video on TikTok. In the video, the Itsnate user, whose real name is Second Lieutenant Nathan Freihofer, makes anti-Jewish jokes about the Holocaust. Nathan has gathered 3 million followers on TikTok, but said that due to the dark nature of his humor, it will largely not be verified by the platform. Now, he has been suspended from his duty in the army.
No detailed explanation was given about the incident. Although it was claimed that it was a racist joke, many users stated that it was just a joke.
What did Itsnate say on TikTok?
In the controversial video, Nathan says that “a Jewish person’s favorite Pokémon character” is Ash, the name of the main character in the series. The video, which was not too long, ended by suggesting that anyone uncomfortable with his comments should overcome it. “Fuck it if you get offended, because it’s a joke,” Nathan says in the video.

“If you get offended, get the fuck out because it’s a joke,” he says.

Although he was not wearing a uniform in the video, other videos posted on his channel show him performing military actions in his uniform. Some military officers, who responded quickly to his video, almost immediately condemned his comments.
“This is absolutely unacceptable,” Sergeant. Army Major Michael Grinston wrote on Twitter. “Whether on social media or not, racist jokes are racist. Period.”
After the video went live, the Army made a series of statements announcing Nathan’s suspension.
“We are investigating reports that allegedly uttered despicable words in a social media video of a Soldier assigned to the XVIII Air Force Command,” the XVIII Air Force Command said in a statement.
“The statement made in the video is completely inconsistent with our values. We will review all facts and take appropriate action.”
The Georgia-based 3rd Infantry Division also announced an investigation and said Nathan was immediately suspended. Former Defense Department spokesman David Lapan said the video contained provocative language that the Army was trying to distance itself from.
“Military service is a glaring example of how many things are on social media,” David told Insider. “On the one hand, we encourage service members to use social media, but to do so responsibly and in ways that reflect positively on their service. This video fails.”
Nathan probably hadn’t been in the army for a long time, but David said he didn’t justify his behavior.
“Quite simply, we have high expectations in the military, and we put a lot of responsibility on very young people,” David said. “We recruit people at the age of 17. But as part of their training process, they are still inculcated in the values of a particular service.”
“We teach them what is appropriate and inappropriate because being in the army at the end of the day means you may have to use lethal force against people,” David continued. “At the age of 17, 18 or 19, you may face very difficult and life-changing decisions.”
